Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan is a flagship health initiative.

Key Features And Service Delivery

Services are delivered at public health facilities on fixed days.
Care is provided by obstetricians, gynecologists, radiologists, and physicians.
The program utilizes a single-window system for all antenatal services and related investigations.
It places special focus on unregistered women, dropouts, and missed antenatal care cases.
Mother and Child Protection Cards are distributed to pregnant women.
Safe motherhood booklets are also provided to educate mothers.

The Extended Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan strategy was launched in January 2022.
It ensures continuous tracing and individual tracking of high-risk pregnant women.
The tracking continues until a safe delivery is successfully achieved.
It provides financial incentivization for identified high-risk pregnant women.
It also incentivizes the accompanying Accredited Social Health Activist for providing extra support.
The program mandates extra three visits over and above the standard monthly visit.

It maintains a name-based line listing of all high-risk pregnancies.
It offers provisions for additional clinical sessions up to a maximum of four times a month.
It tracks the mother individually up to the 45th day post-delivery to ensure a healthy outcome.
It utilizes SMS alerts to notify the beneficiary and the Accredited Social Health Activist regarding registration and follow-up visits.

The program follows a systematic approach to engage the private healthcare sector.
It motivates private medical practitioners to volunteer for the campaign.
Volunteers assist in developing strategies for spreading awareness.
They provide direct clinical services at government health facilities.

Medical professionals register their intent to volunteer through multiple channels.
Doctors can call a toll-free number, 18001801104, to register.
They can also send an SMS containing their name to 5616115.
Registration is additionally available through the official web portal and a dedicated mobile application.
District authorities contact registered volunteers to decide the specific health facility for service provision.

More than 6.19 crore pregnant women have been examined under the scheme.
Over 78.27 lakh high-risk pregnancies were identified across all states and union territories by December 2024.
The program has significantly contributed to reducing the Maternal Mortality Ratio in India.
The Maternal Mortality Ratio declined from 130 per lakh live births in 2014-2016 to 80 per lakh live births in 2021-2023.
More than 6,800 volunteers have registered to support the initiative.
Services are currently being provided across more than 20,700 public health facilities.
